clothing brands are not a “Side Hustle”

In recent years the concept of a “side hustle” has become popular within the online community.

For some, earning supplemental income is necessary to make ends meet, and we understand this completely.

For others with a strong drive for consistently doing more and a passion for the hustle, it can also be a productive way to spend time.

There are thousands of options available online for fast money on the side, the problem is that building a successful clothing brand is being associated with a quick and easy “side hustle” to turn extra profit.

If this sounds like a good idea to you, it shouldn’t and your “side hustle” clothing brand will fail 98% of the time, costing you a significant investment in time and money.

Building a successful business of any kind, let alone in one of the most saturated and competitive industries in the world should not have any association whatsoever with the term “side hustle”

This is not to say that if you currently work a full time job to cover your bills, you can not build a successful clothing brand on the side with your free time, you absolutely can.

The point is that there are a lot of critically important components involved in building and operating a clothing brand that most new to the industry will often neglect to educate themselves in, the result being underwhelming sales & performance in the business, and therefore a failed brand.

Starting and maintaining a clothing brand requires much more learning & planning than meets the eye.

Often overlooked, the fundamental pillars of a strong clothing brand include :

  • Strong, well thought-out brand identity plan

  • Professional business plan

  • Well considered marketing & e-commerce strategy

  • High quality, unique garment & graphic design

  • Legal obligations

  • Quality supply chain, production & logistics

  • Customer care & experience

These are only a few of the many essential components for success in this industry.

This is not to deter anyone from pursuing a dream of creating a fashion brand or making this a full time reality, but to give a realistic view on the necessary commitment it takes to make it happen & operate successfully long term.

As a startup brand, the first priority should always be to learn as much as possible and utilize this knowledge to gain every advantage over market competition, implement this and you’re already above where most brands fall short.
